Hillbilly Handfishin - Storm Chasers - Reed Timmer - Oklahomans Making it Main Stream

It is at some point or another every kids dream - to be on TV! That is exactly some good ole boys from Oklahoma are doing these days. 

You may have heard of Noodlin', Noodling, Handfishing, these terms deal with catching a monster catfish bare handed! Outlawed in some states, Oklahoma is a haven for noodlers. Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, is famous for its annual Okie Noodlin' contest, in which contestants from all across the State of Oklahoma go on a man hunt for HUGE catfish hidden underneath the murky and often muddy waters of Oklahoma. At the end of the day, they all meet back at Pauls Valley for the weigh in to see who has the most or the biggest fish. One man has won the tournament 5+ times. That man, is Skipper Bivins.

Skipper Bivins resides in Temple, OK, with his wife Joann and his two kids, Christian and his daughter, Heather. He's a good ole boy, the kinda guy you want to sit out on the porch with and listen to his hunting stories. But Skipper is no ordinary country boy. Skipper is the worlds most renown noodling expert. He has been featured on several different national talk shows and has become synonymous with the term "hand-fishin".

Skipper may have recently opened up a gold mine. He has been working with Animal Planet on a show dubbed "Hill Billy Hand Fishin". This show features Skipper and his family as they take city slickers on exciting monster fish hunts, as he teaches these upper class country illiterates exactly what it takes to wrestle and defeat a monster catfish! The show initially aired in the fall of 2010, and if the ratings were good enough, plans were going to be made to start a reality series. Skipper is one of many Oklahomans who has found his way to the lime light by doing what he loves; good ole' fashion country lifestyle. Best of luck Skipper!

Storm Chasers - Reed Timmer - THE DOMINATOR!

Storm season usually rolls in around May, and when in full force, can bring some awesome works of nature, and sometimes, most unfortunately devastating, tornadoes! From Norman, OK, fueled with a passion to develop advanced storm warning systems, Reed Timmer is a passionate meteorologist who is dedicated to learning and understanding what makes a tornado form and how can they develop systems that can give advance warning to folks who don't know it's coming there way! His show, Storm Chasers, featured on Discovery Channel, shows us two different aspects of his career. One being the scientific passion of his, and the other being a group who is trying to develop an IMAX Movie of Reed and his crew chasing storms. 

The Dominator

Reed drives around in a modified and Up-Armored Chevy Tahoe that has been modified with a combination of steel, Kevlar and other highly force resistant materials to be able to withstand the harsh winds that come associated with a Tornado. The truck can pull up next to a tornado, drop to the ground using hydrolics so that it can eliminate the space between the undercarriage and the road, which during high mile winds, wind can blow underneath the vehicle and the vehicle can be blown away. With the frame lowered to the ground, it blocks the flow of the wind, which causes the wind to deflect around the vehicle, providing for a sheltered area during high winds. During this time period, they pull up to the tornado and launch probes directly into the tornado, similar to the probes or atleast the concept, on the movie "Twister". These probes collect meteorological data which can be used to learn more about the inner workings of a tornado. Using these measurements can help scientists get one step closer to uncovering the nature behind these destructive anomalies and can help warn people in the future. Reed Timmer is highly dedicated to devoting his life in the endeavor to learn and essentially defeat the serious problems tornadoes can bring about for people everywhere.

I am excited that Oklahoma has produced some men that are out there making it. Some making a difference in others lives, some just making it on the big stage. For all of those living the dream, I say Kudos!
